"The Ark of the Covenant is described Exodus 25:10-22, as a sacred container, where the Ten Commandments, Aaron's rod and the manna of God were stored. According to the Biblical account, the Ark was built at the command of God, using instructions from Moses' prophetic vision on Mount Sinai. God spoke with Moses "From between the two cherubim" which are depicted on the ark's cover. The ark and its sanctuary were consider "The beauty of Israel" as recorded in Lamentations 2:1. Rashi and some Midrashim suggest that there two arks were constructed. The first was made by Moses, and the second, a later one, was made by Bezalel. At some point in time the ark disappeared. Many have speculated that it could be hidden in secret chambers under the remains of the Temple in Jerusalem or possibly in Ethiopia, where it could have been sent by King Solomon.
